Wedding Belles

Very mixed experience at this shop. When I was looking for my dress they were extremely nice and helpful with a really good range of dresses at not bad prices. I went to them as I had a specific dress in mind which they stocked and ended up buying it after 2 visits and trying on several others. It had a lace hem so I asked about the cost of alterations as I knew with the fiddly detail they might be expensive. I was assured they were very reasonable and although they couldn't give an exact quote because their fitter wasn't there, it wasn't worth paying £100 extra to have the dress ordered to length. That seemed about right as another shop had told me they charge £90 to take up a lace hem. My dress was due to arrive 9 months before my wedding so I also asked if they'd be able to keep it at the shop until then. They said probably not for the whole time but they could keep it for a least a couple of months. When my dress arrived it fitted quite well apart from the length and around the bust which was a surprise as I'd lost 2 inches off my waist and hips since ordering it; supposedly in the correct size to fit me as I was then. I was told that this was because I'd ordered a zip rather than lace up back - hmmm. I'm highly suspicious that they ordered the wrong size and it was just lucky that I lost weight. They then quoted me £300 to take the hem up! When I said I'd have to think about paying that much I was hustled out the shop as soon as possible, without even looking at what other tweaks I needed (eg. to the bust) or explaining how it should be bustled. I was told I couldn't leave my dress there as I'd paid for it and it was no longer their responsibility. They even charged an extra £20 for a bag, which given that the dress cost £1000 and they were forcing me to take it away there and then really seemed a bit much! Although I was thrilled with my dress I came away feeling a bit deflated and like I'd been lied to and ripped off. If I'm trying to be as fair as possible the alterations may have cost them £300 because they contract that work out but if that was the case they should have known that in advance and advised me to order it to length for an extra £100 once I had my shoes. I've since had my dress adjusted beautifully at a different shop for £120. They also couldn't do more to help me even though I hadn't bought it from them. Says it all really, Wedding Belles has now lost several potential customers as I've told my friends who are currently engaged to avoid them like the plague! In summary, they were pretty good whilst I was looking, but after they had my order I found them unprofessional and untrustworthy.
